Joe Gray Takes World Mountain Title, Leads Team USA To Gold

Joe Gray (Merrell) dominated the field in the WMRA World Mountain Running Championships held in Sapareva Banya, Bulgaria, on Sunday, winning by nearly two minutes over Israel Morales of Mexico. Gray also led an inspired senior men’s US team to its first ever team title in the 32-year history of the race with a narrow 32-33 win over Italy. Gray, who marked his 20th-time in representing Team USA across a range of disciplines from cross country to mountain and trail championships, previously had a best World Mountain Running finish of fifth in 2015 while Team USA’s previous best was silver in 2010 after the event became IAAF sanctioned and recognized as a world championship.
